It turns out Alternative was just a stunt by NEXTMEDIA on its new 104.9 property in LUBBOCK, TX. Following five days as Alternative KBTE (104.9 THE BAT), the station segued into three hours of "We Got The Beat" on 8/25 and then flipped to Top 40/Rhythmic as "104.9 THE BEAT - #1 FOR HIP-HOP AND R&B."

"THE REAL ROCK ALTERNATIVE" has landed in LUBBOCK, TX.
After tormenting listeners with non-stop BILLY RAY CYRUS "Achy Breaky Heart" and a heartbeat behind it, NEXTMEDIA launched Alternative KBTE (104.9 THE BAT) at midnight (8/20) under PD BRUCE WAYNE.
The first song was OFFSPRING "Come Out And Play." The station is running jockless.
Are the rumors about HOWARD STERN coming to LUBBOCK true? Can these guys be for real? Stay tuned for more details.
