CITADEL has not restored HOWARD STERN's show to its stations in SYRACUSE, PROVIDENCE, NEW BEDFORD, GRAND RAPIDS, and HARRISBURG upon his return from vacation. OPIE AND ANTHONY tapes continue on WAQX (95X)/SYRACUSE, while afternoon host NIPSEY has moved to mornings at WQXA (105.7 THE X)/HARRISBURG.

STERN said on his MONDAY (1/3) show that CITADEL boss FARID SULEMAN ("a weird dude," according to STERN) is asking for payment of $200,000. from STERN for the host's mentioning SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO on his syndicated show. STERN said that he and his agent DON BUCHWALD were baffled by the move and said he would have understood if SULEMAN had asked to get out of the company's contract early. "Is this to teach me a lesson? Because it's clearly not working," STERN said about the CITADEL move, noting that "I was nothing but nice to (SULEMAN)" but professing not to care.

21.WBCN...Howard Stern (this is that Boston station that was beating Mancow before WWKX picked up the Stern Show)
23.WXEX...the former home of Mancow (this is my favorite, just compare the ratings between WBCN in Boston to WXEX in Providence. These two cities are 50 miles apart!)

On March 13, 1998, in alt.fan.howard-stern, "Orbit" posted this full page ad that was in the Providence Phoenix, a weekly news, arts, entertainment rag, as well as the Providence Journal-Bulletin over the weekend of March 14-15, 1998):

THE HOWARD STERN SHOW ON HOT 106 will begin broadcasting on Monday, March 16th, 1998 on the FM frequencies of 106.3 and 102.7. We realize that this change in programming may offend certain individuals and groups in the community. For this reason we offer the following apologies:
Hot 106 apologies to any ethnic, cultural, religious or community group that finds THE HOWARD STERN SHOW'S humor distasteful. Hot 106 offers that every fm radio ever built has a "tuning" feature. If you find THE HOWARD STERN SHOW truly offensive, Hot 106 strongly suggest use of this "tuning" apparatus to find other programming suitable to your narrow-mindedness.
Hot 106 also apologies to the other morning shows in the area; including shows that do not originate in the Providence area but are syndicated on local stations. THE HOWARD STERN SHOW has a proven record of market domination over any and all competitors. Hot 106 expects nothing less in Providence.
